A long-time friend calls me and gives me a voucher for 12 months of Sky World and all HD channels for free until the end of the year. Even though I only get a few hours of TV a week myself - four new children's channels, after all, and thanks to the HD channels I can even watch the first half of the Bundesliga. The connection fee and delivery costs were also included, and the required digital receiver and smartcard were delivered free of charge. Hey, I liked being able to get a taste of the Sky world in this way and completely free of charge, so I was very pleased and gratefully redeemed the voucher.

The fact that the computer museum, which is unique in this form in Germany, is located in Oldenburg of all places is of course a very fortunate coincidence. Even better is the current special exhibition "35 Years of Apple Computers", which the OCM (Oldenburg Computer Museum) is presenting from May 12 to June 30, 2011. On display are many original Apple computers from the Apple I clone to the Apple Lisa, Macintosh Portable, Newton Message Pad and the current Apple iPad. All of the exhibited devices are fully functional and can be used by visitors and thus experienced at first hand. The Oldenburg Computer Museum has a total of over 700 exhibits in its collection and usually displays around 50 exhibits and around 20 operational systems. From the ZX81 to the Atari ST to current systems, the Oldenburg Computer Museum has something for every visitor - at no cost... 🙂
Having been in the computer business for around 20 years now, I am familiar with the often hesitant way in which many companies deal with new technologies. However, this article is not really about brand new technologies, but about social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. These have been showing a steady (strong) increase in user numbers for several years now - according to its own figures, the platform had almost 14 million users in Germany in February 2011. Twitter has significantly lower user numbers, but is also growing steadily. This means that the most widely used social networks have an enormous reach - for comparison, the BILD newspaper, for example, has a circulation of around 3 million copies per day. Reason enough to take a closer look at social networks.
