M. Schall Verlag is looking for authors who have something to say. People who write from experience, who are committed to a cause and whose texts have a calm, clear tone. If you feel called to write a book or are already working on a project, you can apply here. Please take the time to answer the following questions - quality is not created on the fly.
Copyright and term of protection of works
Copyright law protects every created work until 70 years after the death of the author. Only then does a work fall into the public domain. This long term of protection is intended to ensure that not only the author himself, but also his heirs can enjoy the rights. Copyright is inheritable and passes automatically to children or other heirs without any special formalities being necessary.
Copyright also remains inviolable throughout the protection period and cannot „expire“ or be lost through inactivity. For authors, this means that their works remain protected and commercially usable far beyond their own lifetime - a form of intellectual property that has real permanence and can be passed on within the family.
What M. Schall Verlag does for authors
As a publisher, I provide authors with reliable support from the initial idea to the finished book. This includes an honest assessment of the manuscript, support with typesetting and design, the allocation of an ISBN via the publisher's stock, publication as a print and e-book and solid visibility via my own channels - from website to international press work. The aim is for each book not only to be published, but also to last and to appear in a quality that does justice to the author and the subject.
If you apply to us as an author, you will receive no costs. We don't ask for any fees, no printing subsidies, and no hidden investments. What we are looking for is a good book project and the people behind it - not their money. Once we have received your application, we will discuss the manuscript, the target group and the publication together. If we accept a project, we bear the publishing responsibility and later share the success fairly. What counts for us is the content, the author's voice and the quality of the work - everything else is taken care of during the process.
Promotion: 15 free review copies
A special publishing promotion is currently running: 15 copies of my book "Writing books 2.0 - practical guide for authors" are awarded free of charge to applicants who introduce themselves via the new author form. Participation is non-binding, but subject to one condition:
Applicants must answer the questions on the form carefully and completely. Short one-word answers or obviously unmotivated submissions cannot be considered, as the books will only be awarded to serious applicants. There are no further obligations.
The promotion ends automatically as soon as the 15 books have been awarded. The book will be sent free of charge by post as a print copy. So if you want to take part, you should register as soon as possible.
If you would like to receive a free copy, please enter your full postal address for delivery of the book in the message field below.

Frequently asked questions
- What does it mean to apply to M. Schall Verlag as an author?
If you have a book project, be it a finished manuscript or just an idea with a clear message, you can introduce yourself here. Your application will help us to understand what it is about, who you are and why your perspective is valuable for readers. On this basis, we will decide whether a collaboration makes sense. - Why should I write a book at all?
A book is - historically speaking - the most traditional medium for putting knowledge, experience or thoughts into form. It creates long-term influence, builds authority and serves as lasting capital for your expertise. Many successful authors report that the printed book in particular opens doors that other formats cannot reach. It is worth formulating your own point of view clearly and having it written down. - What happens after I send my application?
Once we have received your details, we will check them carefully. We check whether the topic, style and requirements match our focus. If we are interested, we will contact you to clarify details, the possible scope of a collaboration and any missing documents. The aim is to provide constructive, respectful support until publication. - Are there any costs for me for the application or support from the publisher?
No. There are no upfront costs as long as you submit the templates in Affinity format. You only pay what is incurred in the typesetting process for your book production - and this is only due when we decide together to realize your project. There are no hidden fees with us, as can be the case with some other providers (e.g. paid listing packages). - In which formats can I submit my manuscript?
Ideally in Affinity Publisher format - this speeds up the typesetting process considerably and minimizes conversion work. Of course, we can also look at other formats, but with Affinity files you have the advantage that we can work directly with your layout. - What about my copyrights if my book is published?
Copyright belongs to you as the creator of the work, regardless of publication. In Germany, this copyright only expires 70 years after your death, which means that you retain all rights to your text and can determine how and where it is used. - Do I have to assign my rights to the publisher?
No. A fair publishing agreement regulates which rights of use the publisher receives (e.g. publishing rights for certain formats) without you ceding all rights across the board. You retain your copyrights and we jointly agree on the duration of use - which can be limited to a certain period or certain editions, for example. - Do I receive royalties or profit sharing from sales?
Yes - standard models stipulate that you receive a share of the sales proceeds. The specific amount and calculation is regulated transparently in the contract so that you know exactly how much you are entitled to. The aim is a fair split that recognizes both your performance as an author and the publisher's investment. - Why do I have to answer questions in the application form in detail?
Because good preparation makes good collaboration possible. A detailed insight into your project, your motivation, style and target group helps us to assess quality and create a sensible basis for decision-making. It's not just a formality, but the first step towards a serious author relationship. - What does „calm, clear tone“ mean in my texts?
The publisher attaches great importance to texts with dignified expression, well thought-out language and clear argumentation that reflect experience and maturity. This means: no hectic, no superficial phrases, but content that goes deep and offers the reader real added value. - What role does AI play in collaboration?
You can openly state whether and how you work with AI. AI can increase productivity, for example in structuring, formulating or layout. At the same time, I pay attention to qualitative control and respectful integration of technological tools so that your work remains human and carries your style. - How long will it take for my book to be published?
This depends on the project status and scope. Once a contract has been signed, careful revision, typesetting and design take time. The process usually takes between a few weeks and months - never rushed, but with the aim of creating a product that lasts. - Does the publisher support me with distribution and visibility?
Yes - in addition to the technical publication as print and e-book, the publisher offers solid visibility via its own channels including website and press work, e.g. via OpenPR, to promote readership and reach. - What happens if my project is not yet finished?
Then your application is still welcome. What is important is your vision, motivation and a clear project status. Together we will see what the next sensible step is - be it a concept development, an exposé or a fully developed manuscript. - Can I submit several projects or think in parallel?
Of course. Many authors have various topics or formats in mind. It is important to present each project clearly and cleanly so that we can decide together which ideas are ready for publication and how they can be strategically implemented.
