In another presentation at the FileMaker Conference 2012, I showed ways to optimize screen layouts and navigation within a FileMaker solution. First, I provided an overview of the methods and technologies that can be used to implement database-supported navigation in FileMaker. In a short excursion into GUI studies, I show how a graphical user interface should look and be structured according to the current scientific state of the art. Finally, using a practical example, I show how database-supported navigation can be implemented in a FileMaker solution with pure on-board resources without plug-ins.
Screen layouts can be realized in FileMaker in different ways. If a FileMaker solution is to be expanded at a later date, it is advisable to consider the GUI concept prior to development. In addition to the possibility of creating flexible, skinable and multi-language-capable layouts for the computer and mobile iOS devices, modern GUI concepts can also be implemented with layers or as a JavaScript/jQuery solution using an MBS plugin. In this session at the FileMaker Conference 2012, you will get an overview of the solutions and which GUI strategy is preferable for the different platforms. As a practical topic, I will present iPad and iPhone layouts for FileMaker Go and show how the layouts can be automatically adapted to the switched screen resolution when the device is rotated.
